We love to ski, and want to help others to experience the same joy! Arslanbob is a beautiful mountain village nestled in the Babash Ata Range of the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan. There is a lot of snow, but not many skiers and even fewer skis. We hope to encourage the development of youth skiing and winter backcountry and cross country ski tourism.
CBT Arslanbob is just one of 18 Community Based Tourism branches in Kyrgyzstan. Founded in Kochkor in 2000 CBT is an organization that strives for a form of tourism where locals have substantial control over the involvement, development and management of tourism and where a majority of the benefits remain within the community.
Hayat Tarikov is the head of CBT Arslanbob, the only CBT branch in Kygyzstan with an active winter tourism program.
SITE CONTRIBUTORS:
Traveling through Arslanbob in the summer, Kjartan Pedersen thought it might be a good idea to come back when there was snow. He returned in the winter of 2010 and spent two months in Kyrgyzstan and in Arslanbob teaching skiing and working with the local guides and children.
Ann Piersall is living in Kyrgyzstan skiing, climbing and researching glacial retreat in the Tien Shan. Twice during the winter of 2010 she visited Arslanbob as a guest instructor.
